  • Hockey Drills

    Hockey drills are certainly not something that you have to leave behind whenever you step off of the ice. There are lots of ways that players which are serious about improving their game can work independently off of the ice to simulate on ice scenarios, and also to make gains in the areas that really matter during games. Here are a few wonderful drills you can do off-ice in making you a more dominant player whenever you hit the rink.

    Interval Running

    Interval running (or stationary biking)
    is an excellent dryland exercise simply because it's going to enhance your swiftness and speed, as well as help condition you for games. You can do ladder drills in places you change the duration of work and rest as you go, or you can do fixed period intervals. A great one to do is 45 seconds of hard work as well as about a minute and a half of lower intensity work. This models the real life intervals you go through in the game with shifts and bench relaxation.

    Shooting Races

    This
    one is superb to try and do if you're training with a teammate that you could race against, but when you're on your own you can just attempt to beat your personal time. You just need someplace you've got room to operate and set up netting. Set up a net with 4 targets and a number of pucks (or balls). After that establish a marker at least 100m away. The purpose of the drill will be to do four sprints to the 100m mark and back, hitting one of many targets each time. Keep track of times and always try and beat your previous best time.

    Inline Drills

    One
    good way of conditioning yourself during the off-season will be to strap on a good pair of inline skates and imitate your current on-ice drills that way. The particular stride you are going to utilize on inline skates is somewhat different to that of ice skates, and you'll need a few sessions to regulate, but the muscles you use for both is the same. That means for fitness and conditioning reasons, inline skates certainly are a perfect replacement for ice skates and will work all the same muscles you'll need for game time.
